Federal STC Rebate
The Small-scale Technology Certificate (STC) scheme provides upfront rebates for eligible solar battery installations. Maximum capacity: 50kWh (~$18,000 rebate).
How Much Can You Save?
- 50kWh battery (max): Approximately $17,500 - $18,000 rebate
- 13.5kWh battery: Approximately $4,000 - $4,500 rebate
- 10kWh battery: Approximately $3,000 - $3,500 rebate
- 5kWh battery: Approximately $1,500 - $1,800 rebate
*Rebate amounts vary based on installation date, location zone, and current STC price. Use our calculator for exact figures.
Eligibility Requirements
- Battery must be on the Clean Energy Council (CEC) approved list
- Must be installed by a CEC-accredited installer
- Installation must comply with Australian standards
- Battery can be standalone or added to existing solar system
WA State Battery Rebate (Synergy Network)
Western Australia offers an additional state rebate for battery installations in the Synergy network. This rebate can be claimed in addition to the federal STC rebate.
WA State Rebate Details
- Rebate Amount: $130 per kWh installed
- Maximum Rebate: $1,300 (capped at 10kWh)
- Network: Synergy (SWIS) network only
- Requirement: Must participate in Synergy VPP program
- Combined with Federal: Yes! Both rebates can be claimed together
Example: 13.5kWh Battery Installation
Combined savings: $5,620 (35% discount) - both rebates claimed together
Why Both Rebates Matter
The WA State and Federal rebate schemes are completely separate programs with different criteria and caps. Importantly, you can claim both rebates on the same battery installation.
Federal STC Rebate
- • Based on capacity up to 50kWh
- • ~$260-350 per kWh
- • Available Australia-wide
- • No VPP requirement
WA State Rebate
- • Based on capacity up to 10kWh
- • $130 per kWh
- • Synergy network only
- • Requires VPP participation
Maximum Combined Benefit:
For a 50kWh battery: Up to $18,000 (Federal) + $1,300 (WA State) = $19,300 total rebate
Most residential batteries are 10-15kWh, receiving ~$4,500 + $1,300 = $5,800 combined rebate
WA State Programs & Initiatives
Western Australia offers additional programs that can increase your savings beyond federal rebates.
Synergy Renewable Energy Buyback Scheme (REBS)
Get paid for excess solar energy exported to the grid, making your battery investment more valuable.
- Export solar energy at competitive rates
- Battery allows strategic export during peak pricing
Western Power Network Credits
Some battery systems may qualify for network support payments through Virtual Power Plant (VPP) programs.
- Earn credits for providing grid stability
- VPP-ready batteries can participate in demand response programs
How to Claim Your Rebate
The STC rebate is typically applied automatically by your installer, reducing your upfront cost.
Step-by-Step Process:
- Choose a CEC-approved battery from our comparison tool
- Get quotes from CEC-accredited installers in Perth
- Installer calculates STC value and applies discount to quote
- Accept quote with rebate already deducted
- Installation completed to Australian standards
- Installer handles STC paperwork and registration
- Start saving on your energy bills immediately
Important Note:
Most installers handle the entire STC rebate process on your behalf. The rebate value is deducted from your final invoice, meaning you pay less upfront. Always confirm this with your installer before signing any contracts.
