Perth regularly hits 40-50°C in summer, and roof temperatures can climb past 65°C. Every panel loses output in that heat, but some lose far less than others. This guide compares panels by temperature coefficient, the spec that most determines how much output a panel loses as it heats up.
Every solar panel has a temperature coefficient (Pmax): the percentage of output lost per degree above 25°C. On a 45°C Perth day with 65°C roof temperature, a panel with -0.35%/°C (standard PERC) loses 14% of its output, while a panel with -0.24%/°C (HJT) loses only 9.6%.
Over a year in Perth (avg 5 PSH), that gap adds up to 3-5% more annual energy from the better-performing panels.

HJT (heterojunction): the lowest temperature coefficient
-0.24 to -0.26%/°C, the lowest temperature coefficient in mass production. Combines crystalline silicon with thin-film layers. Premium pricing, with a measurable Perth heat advantage. Brands: REC Alpha Pure-R, Risen Hyper-ion, Huasun Himalaya.
IBC (back contact): among the highest efficiency, premium price
-0.27%/°C. All contacts sit on the back of the cell, so the front surface absorbs more light. Among the highest efficiency available, and the most expensive. Brand: SunPower Maxeon.
TOPCon: strong heat performance at a smaller premium
-0.29 to -0.30%/°C, a clear improvement over PERC at a modest premium. The most widely available N-type technology, and a strong balance of heat performance and price. Brands: Jinko Tiger Neo, Trina Vertex S+, LONGi Hi-MO X.
PERC: lowest price, weakest in heat
-0.34 to -0.37%/°C, the weakest heat performance here but the lowest price. Still functional in Perth, though it loses ~14% output on hot days against ~10% for TOPCon. Suitable for budget installations where upfront cost is the priority.
